Erwin Heberle-Bors

Erwin Heberle-Bors (born July 19, 1947 in Kirchheim / Teck ) is a German biologist.

After graduating from high school , Heberle-Bors completed his military service as a lieutenant in the Air Force from 1967 to 1969 and then studied biology at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim and the Free University of Berlin . After graduating in 1976, he got a position as a research assistant with Professor Jakob Reinert at the FU Institute for Plant Physiology and Cell Biology. In October 1981 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 1983 he went to Vienna as a postdoc to Hermann Katinger at the Institute for Applied Microbiology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences . In 1985 Heberle-Bors switched to Ingo Potrykus at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel.

In 1986 he became group leader at the Institute for Applied Microbiology, in 1987 he became head of the plant genetics working group at the newly established Institute for Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Vienna . In May 1987 he completed his habilitation there in plant genetics. In 1989 he received a professorship. Until 2018 he taught at the FH Campus Wien in the bachelor's degree in molecular biotechnology .
