Jakob Reinert (born July 17, 1912 , † January 19, 2002 ) was a German botanist and university professor.

Life

Reinert was director of the Institute for Plant Physiology and Microbiology at the Free University of Berlin from 1961 to 1979 .

As early as the 1950s, he conducted research in Germany with plant cell cultures and was one of the pioneers in the study of embryogenesis in tissue cultures . He developed and established techniques that made it possible for a plant to regenerate from a cell for the first time. In 1961 he was appointed director of the Institute for Plant Physiology at the Free University of Berlin and made the institute international. From 1968 to 1984 he was co-editor of the journal Protoplasma and an internationally recognized scientist.

Jakob Reinert was buried in the St.-Annen-Kirchhof in Berlin-Dahlem.
