Can throwing is a game of skill that can be found in commercial form at fairs at throwing booths or amusement stands. Since only a few empty tin cans and a few objects to be thrown (balls or the like) are required, and the cost of materials is therefore very low, can throwing is also offered and used at many school and children's parties .

regulate

To play can throwing, several usually 500 ml cans are stacked in a pyramid shape . To do this, three cans are placed next to one another in the bottom row, two in the one above and finally one above. A structure with 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 boxes is also possible. Then the can pyramid is pelted with balls about the size of a tennis ball , which means that if it is successful, the pyramid collapses at least in parts.

For every can that no longer stands there is a point. Usually the thrower has three balls at his disposal in order to score as many points as possible. At many fairs, a prize in the form of a material prize is often only paid out if it is possible to move all cans from their location into the safety net below.

history

In England people throw on coconut shells

Throwing cans is a rather popular entertainment game in German-speaking countries. In Great Britain, empty coconut shells on poles are used for discarding. There it is already mentioned in the Oxford English Dictionary as Coconut shy in 1903. As early as 1897, the writer HG Wells described such a fun fair in his story " The Invisible One ".
