Life
Josef Pointner grew up in Vienna as the son of a police officer. After completing his technical studies, he went to the Junkers aircraft company as a designer . During his time as a soldier in World War II , he was transferred to the Kiel armaments company Walterwerke , where he built rocket torpedoes. After the end of the war he was deported to the Soviet Union , where he worked as a designer and structural engineer for large rockets in the Gröttrup collective. He became seriously ill and therefore had to change his job after his release in 1952 and his return to Vienna. He became a journalist and freelance writer and got a job with the AUVA social insurance company . Here in 1957 he reactivated the scientific magazine "Safe Work" and founded the new magazine "Betriebssicherheit", later "Sicherheitsmagazin", which are still published today.
During his stay in the Soviet Union, he wrote cheerful short texts “so as not to go crazy ...”. He had his greatest successes with it in the 1980s at ORF Vienna and SWR in Stuttgart. He recited from his own works at literary events and reached tens of thousands of listeners on the radio. His publications have included accident, security and disaster, as well as missiles and space travel. The astronautics was for years his main area, he published hundreds of articles on technology, aerospace, photography and occasionally short stories in newspapers and journals. As part of a “world exploration” he undertook 67 trips to four continents and recorded these trips in illustrated essays . He collected books, excerpts, photos and sound carriers. In 1990 he was made an honorary professor.
