Peter Kern (actor)
Peter Kern (born February 13, 1949 in Vienna ; † August 26, 2015 there ) was an Austrian actor , film director , film producer and writer for magazines and newspapers.
Life
Kern made his first public appearances as the Vienna Boys' Choir at a young age . He attended the teacher training college and completed a commercial apprenticeship.
After taking acting lessons with Polly Kügler in Vienna, he made his debut as Gluthammer in Der Zerrissene at the Burgenland State Theater in Eisenstadt . From 1968 to 1971 he was on tour with the musical Hair . Then Peter Lilienthal offered him the first film role in his television film Jacob von Gunten . For his role in The Wrong Move 1975 he received as part of the ensemble cast at the German Film Prize , the German Film Award . In 1978 he was again awarded the Gold Film Ribbon for best leading actor for his roles in Flammende Herzen und Hitler, a film from Germany . Also in 1978 was the single "When the cornflowers bloom", a duet with Barbara Valentin for the film Flammende Herzen .
He also played theater, in 1985 he directed Eyens Women Behind Bars at the Munich Boulevard Theater . Kern played on all important stages, including a. Volksbühne Berlin, Freie Volksbühne Berlin, Burgtheater Vienna, Hamburger Schauspielhaus, TaT Frankfurt, Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, Schauspielhaus Cologne, Schauspielhaus Zurich and others. v. m.
In 1978, Kern founded his Luxor film production and made a name for himself as a documentary filmmaker. In 1983 he directed his first feature film, Die Insel der Bloutigen Plantage , together with Kurt Raab , which was followed by more. Kern has received various awards and honorable mentions for his directorial work. Peter Kern was a jury member at several international film festivals.
In his documentaries he dealt with his homosexuality and his obesity several times . He made several films about outsiders, such as a docu-drama about the Hamburg prostitute Domenica . He addressed his political stance in 2002 in the political comedy Haider Lives . This earned him the hostility of the FPÖ milieu.
On September 24, 2015, he was laid to rest in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 188).
