Die Jungs vom Bahnhof Zoo is a documentary about the current hustler scene in Berlin. The film premiered in 2011 at the Berlin International Film Festival . It was released in theaters on February 24, 2011. The film tries to add the aspect of male prostitution to the image that the book We Children from Zoo Station and the film that followed.

action

The realities of male prostitutes in Berlin are dealt with on the basis of interviews with former and still active prostitutes. The film remains neutral and objective and depicts the prostitute scene as a social sub-milieu, which is characterized by tragic fates as well as everyday occurrences and routines. Not only the direct sale of sexual services is discussed, but also other aspects related to male prostitution: poverty, drug addiction, AIDS, crime, migration, love and partnership.

During the research and production, the director Rosa von Praunheim worked closely with employees of the prostitute project subway (Hilfe-für-Jungs e.V.) from Berlin-Schöneberg, which is also mentioned frequently in the film.

Reviews

The website kinofenster.de writes in its review: “A romanticization is as far removed from the director as the motive of deterrence. Rather, the film, which was produced using a simple hand-held camera optics and largely without music, combines its sober observation with a high degree of empathy . "
