Reinhard Gerer

Reinhard Gerer (born April 12, 1953 in Zeltweg ) is an Austrian chef .

Career as a chef

After his apprenticeship as a chef from 1968 to 1972 in the Wieslburger Bierinsel in the Vienna Prater , Reinhard Gerer completed his training in the restaurant Prinz Eugen des Doyens of Austrian cuisine Werner Matt . He spent further years of apprenticeship in the kitchens of Paul Bocuse , Eckart Witzigmann and Heinz Winkler before starting in 1979 as Chef de Cuisine at Le Pialée . In 1981 he became Austria’s youngest award-winning chef. In 1982, after Richard Hedrich, also a Matt student, had left Mattes from patron Wilhelm Holzbauer , he took over the kitchen there.

In 1984 Reinhard Gerer opened the parade at the Hotel Bristol in Vienna, which under his management was at times awarded four toques by Gault Millau and was the first restaurant in Austria to receive this rating. From 1986 to 2007 the Michelin Guide awarded the parade a star. After losing it in the 2008 guide and downgrading it to 14 points by Gault Millau, Gerer left the parade in 2008.

From 2009 to 2013 Gerer ran the Magdalenenhof am Bisamberg together with Natalie Jelesitz, his future wife . He has been cooking in her Restaurant O in downtown Vienna since 2014 .

On March 30, 2016, private insolvency proceedings were dismissed due to lack of assets.

Other gastronomic projects

In 2003, Reinhard Gerer and his former student Toni Mörwald took over the patronage of the Viennese branch of the Palazzo gastronomic theater project , which Eckart Witzigmann was able to win over Harald Wohlfahrt and Juan Amador , among others . From the 2004 to 2012 season, the project ran under Gerer's name alone. In February 2013 it was announced that Gerer was leaving the palazzo. In May of the same year, Gerer announced that he would be setting up a branch of the gastronomic theater project teatro by Alfons Schuhbeck, who dropped out of the palace . Operations began in October 2013 and closed on January 22, 2014 due to bankruptcy.

After leaving the parade , Gerer worked as a consultant for the Albertina Passage , the Tyrol mountain station , the Gasthaus Hexensitz and the k47 club .
