Werner Matt

Werner Matt (born November 14, 1942 in Kematen in Tirol ) is an Austrian chef .

Career

After an apprenticeship in the Tiroler Weinstube in Seefeld in Tirol , Matt went to France and then to Switzerland. In 1968 he became a chef for the Hilton Group and went to Turkey, England, Canada and Germany. In 1972 he got to know Eckart Witzigmann as head chef at the Hilton Park in Munich .

In 1975 he opened the then largest Hilton hotel in Europe as kitchen director in Vienna. Matt headed a brigade of 75 chefs at the Vienna Hilton. He cooked in the White House and trained well over 1,000 cooks, including Reinhard Gerer and Christian Petz . In the Prinz Eugen restaurant , Matt was awarded a Michelin star and three toques by Klaus Besser .

From 1986 to 1988 he was director of gastronomy at the Imperial Hotels until they were partially sold to the Ciga Hotels. In 1988 he returned to the Hilton as head chef at the Vienna Hilton Plaza . In 2005 he retired.
