The shop window is the weekly lifestyle and culture supplement of the Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse and one of the oldest magazine supplements in the world. The editorial offices for the shop window and its online edition are located in Vienna .

history

The first "Schaufenster" appeared on June 29, 1974 as part of the weekend supplement "Spectrum". On February 18, 1977 the "shop window" redesigned by Lore Fessler finally appeared for the first time on Friday with a color change, and it also contained a television program. Under the editorial direction of the "press" music critic Wilhelm Sinkovicz , the "shop window" was published separately "Magazin" of the "Presse" united and appeared as a culture and leisure journal from May 6, 1994. In the following years, the design of the color supplement was revised several times, in April 2007 it won the Printissimo Prize and awarded the first of a total of three beauty innovations Awards: In March 2013 the first edition of the "Schaufenster Trendheft", which was designed by Daniel Kalt , was published, and in October 2013 the first "Kulturmagazin" was published as a biannual sister magazine of the "Schaufenster".

The shop window belongs to the publishing house Die Presse , which in turn belongs to the Styria Media Group , and is included as a weekly lifestyle and culture supplement every Friday in the national Austrian daily newspaper. The main focus areas include fashion, beauty, design, gourmet, travel and culture. Current editors-in-chief are Daniel Kalt and, as editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper, Rainer Nowak . The magazine appears in full color with a range of 52 to 100 pages.

The main competitor is the Rondo supplement of the left-liberal daily Der Standard .

The shop window is the oldest magazine supplement in Austria. Since the relaunch in 2005, the supplement has also been referred to as a “guide to the beautiful life”. Since 2008 it has also had its own website.

Requirements and range

According to the Austrian print run control (ÖAK 2nd half of 2017), Die Presse shows a print run of 74,820 copies on Friday, on which the shop window is also enclosed. In comparison, Der Standard on Friday, on which the Rondo is enclosed, shows a print run of 69,034 copies. The Austrian media analysis has for the showcase not have its own range of value, but for the carrier medium of the press .
