biography

Sinkovicz studied musicology at the University of Vienna and composition at the Vienna Conservatory with Rüdiger Seitz . He received his doctorate with a dissertation on Paul Hindemith's Rainer Maria Rilke musicals Das Marienleben .

Sinkovicz has been a music critic for the daily newspaper Die Presse since 1984 . From 1989 to 1992 he was also head of the cultural editorial department there, then until 2005, parallel to his criticism, he was editor-in-chief of the weekly culture magazine “Schaufenster” . Since then he has devoted himself exclusively to music journalism and has also designed special series of events on cultural-political issues for the “press”, above all a “music salon” established in 1999, which premiered in the former tobacco museum and after stops at the Karajan Center and the music association has been based at the MuTh since 2015 .

From 1986 Sinkovicz regularly made radio programs for Ö1 (including his own series such as “Classical Seduction” and “Philharmonic Seduction”) and for many years gave lectures on music-historical and musical-analytical topics at the Institute for Theater Studies at the University of Vienna and at the University of Music . Since 1998 he has been teaching music analysis for the composer and conductor classes at the Vienna Conservatory .

Musicological contributions by Wilhelm Sinkovicz have appeared in several yearbooks of the Franz Schmidt Society, of which Sinkovicz was president, in the commemorative publication for Theophil Antonicek's 60th birthday, and in the Hindemith yearbook.
