The Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute is a cultural institution that was founded by Eliette von Karajan and is dedicated to the maintenance and continuation of the musical legacy of her husband, Herbert von Karajan .

history

The institute , founded in Salzburg in 2005 , is the successor to the Herbert von Karajan Center , which opened in Vienna in 1995 and established itself as an event center and funding center for young artists. At Eliette von Karajan's request, the “Karajan Archive”, which has been located in Vienna since 1995, was moved to Salzburg on November 1, 2006 - to the maestro's birthplace and hometown - and incorporated into the Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute .

tasks

After coordinating the anniversary year 2008, in which the 100th anniversary of Herbert von Karajan's birthday was celebrated on April 5, 2008 with a series of international projects, the Karajan Institute has three main tasks:

  1. The administration of the musical legacy and thus also all rights of Herbert von Karajan with a focus on branding and licensing, whereby it positions itself as a contact person for all rights inquiries regarding Herbert von Karajan.
  2. The development and implementation of innovative projects in the field of youth promotion with the aim of bringing young people closer to classical music in the long term.
  3. The maintenance and continuous expansion of the Karajan Archive, which, with its extensive holdings, is the central point of contact for research questions about the life and work of Herbert von Karajan.
