Daniel Kalt

Daniel Kalt (* 1977 in Spittal an der Drau ) is an Austrian journalist .

Life

After attending grammar school in Carinthia, Kalt studied comparative literature and Romance studies with a focus on French and Portuguese literature in Vienna , Lisbon , Madrid and Paris . During his studies he specialized in contemporary translation theories . In his master's thesis he analyzed the Molière translations by António Feliciano de Castilho, a representative of Portuguese Romanticism .

He did his doctorate with a dissertation on the representation of post-industrial port cities in the mirror of crime literature. The focus is on the Mediterranean metropolises of Barcelona and Marseille as well as the primary literary works by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán , Eduardo Mendoza , Francisco González Ledesma, Andreu Martín, Jean-Claude Izzo and other representatives of the so-called polar marseillais .

Since 2006, Kalt has mainly worked as a journalist specializing in fashion , urbanism and lifestyle . Between 2006 and 2010 he wrote a series of articles on art in public space for the urbanistic magazine Dérive . In 2008 he was part of the core team that oversaw the launch of the Flair magazine published by Mondadori in Italy at the Austrian publisher Ahead Media .

Employed as editor for the daily newspaper Die Presse since 2010 , he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of the weekend supplement Schaufenster in 2012. 2014 he became showcase - editor in chief . Since the end of 2012 he has been writing the regularly appearing perfume criticism column “Fragrance” for this magazine . In 2013 he conceived the biannual culture magazine of the press and the biannual trend special edition of the magazine Schaufenster.

Kalt regularly moderates discussion events on topics from the fields of fashion and creative industries in English and German. He also writes book chapters and scientific articles. He has been running the ParisVienne blog in English, French and Italian since 2008 and the German-language blog KaltePlatte since 2012 .
