Eduardo Mendoza i Garriga (born January 11, 1943 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish writer who mainly writes in Spanish , less often in Catalan .

Life

Mendoza first studied law and worked from 1973 to 1982 in New York as an interpreter for the UN .

In 1975 his first novel La verdad sobre el caso Savolta ( Eng . The truth about the Savolta case ) appeared. His greatest success so far is the novel La ciudad de los prodigios from 1986 (Eng. The City of Miracles ), in which he tells the life of a young man in Barcelona in the first quarter of the 20th century. In his works, he was one of the first Spanish authors to address the past Francoist dictatorship. The postmodern renewal of the Spanish historical novel is attributed to him.

Eduardo Mendoza received the Premio Cervantes in 2016, the most important literary award in the Spanish-speaking world.
