The Stena Hollandica and her sister ship Stena Britannica were built at the Nordic Yards shipyard at the locations in Wismar and Warnemünde and completed in the course of 2010. The ferries, with an order volume of around EUR 400 million, were commissioned by Stena Line in November 2006. Due to economic difficulties at the shipyard (then Wadan Yards), Stena Line temporarily withdrew from the order, which delayed the completion of the ferries. After the contractual partners had agreed on a total discount of 24 million euros, both ships were completed and handed over to Stena Line. The christening of the second Stena Hollandica took place on June 8, 2010 in Hoek van Holland and that of the fifth Stena Britannica on October 19, 2010 in Harwich . The ships serve the connection between Harwich, Great Britain, and Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands.
The vessels are of four MAN - diesel driven. The engines provide a total of 33,600 kW and accelerate the ships up to 22 knots . Two of the motors have an output of 9,600 kW each, the other two each 7,200 kW. The heat from the main engines is used to heat the ship.
In January 2018, a truck caught fire on one of the RoRo decks on board the Stena Britannica . The fire, which spread to several trucks, was extinguished by the crew and fire fighters brought on board.
