Homer Albert Norris

Homer Albert Norris (born October 4, 1860 in Wayne / Maine , † August 14, 1920 in New York City ) was an American organist, musicologist and composer.

Norris studied at the New England Conservatory with George W. Marston , Edward Danforth Hale , Stephen Albert Emery and George W. Chadwick . He continued his training in France with Théodore Dubois , Alexandre Guilmant , Benjamin Godard and Eugène Gigout .

After holding positions as organist in Lewiston, Portland / Maine and at the Ruggles St. Baptist Church in Boston, he became organist at St. George's Church in New York in 1904 . With books on counterpoint and practical harmony, Norris became known as a music theorist. He composed songs, choral and orchestral works.
