Wayne is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1189 inhabitants in 514 households on an area of 66.38 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Wayne has a total area of 66.38 km², of which 49.88 km² is land and 16.50 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Wayne is west of Kennebec County and borders Androscoggin County . A chain of lakes runs through the town in a central north-south direction. Lovejoy Pond is to the north , Pocasset Lake to the center and Androscoggin Lake to the south . On the eastern border of the town are Berry Pond and Wilson Pond . The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 203 m high Morrison Heights .

history
Settlement of Wayne began in 1773 when Job Fuller settled in the area. The area was part of the Kennebec Purchase from Governor Bradford's Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts. The area was first called Pocasset, later New Sandwich Plantation. Town Wayne was organized on February 12, 1798. The town was named after Anthony Wayne, a general under George Washington .
A gore was added in 1804 and parts of the town of Leeds in 1810 and 1859. Land was given to Winthrop in 1816, 1839 and 1852. Part of Lovermore Falls was added in 1821, and land was given to Readfield that same year.

The Maine State Route 133 leads east to west through Wayne. It connects Wayne with Winthrop in the south and Livermoore Falls in the north. Maine State Route 219 to Leeds branches off from here in a southerly direction .
