Rome is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1010 inhabitants in 439 households on an area of 82.15 km².

Geographical location
Rome is in the northwest of Kennebec County, with Franklin County to the northwest and Somerset County to the north . Several large lakes lie in the area of the town or adjoin it. To the north the Little Pond and The Narrows Pond , to the south and east the Long Pond and the Great Pond . The surface is hilly and the 324 m high Martin Hill is the highest point.

history
The settlement of Rome started around 1780. The area was initially called West Pond Plantation , but the name was changed to Rome when it was organized as a town in 1804 .
The area was part of the Kennebec Purchase from Governor Bradford's Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts. Land was given to Mount Vernon in 1814, to Vienna in 1815 and 1840, and to Belgrade in 1845 and 1897.
