Manchester is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 2580 inhabitants in 1044 households on an area of 58.59 km².

Geographical location
Manchester is centrally located in Kennebec County. In the southwest of the Cobbosseecontee Lake borders on the area of the town. There are other smaller lakes in the Manchester area. The Cobbosseecontee Stream flows south and flows into the Kennebec River . The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 163 m high Lithgow Hill .

history
Manchester was formed from areas that previously belonged to Augusta, Hallowell, Winthrop and Readfield. This area was settled from 1774. As a Town, Manchester was founded in 1850 under the name Kennebec. Because it was often confused with Kennebunk, the name was changed to Manchester in 1854.
