Belgrade is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 3189 inhabitants in 1265 households on an area of 150.04 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Belgrade has a total area of 150.04 km², of which 111.99 km² is land and 38.05 km² is made up of water .
Geographical location
Belgrade is centrally located in the north of Kennebec County, on the border with Somerset County . The four large Belgrade Lakes are in the north of the town. Long Pond to the northwest , Great Pond to the north, Ellis Pond to the northeast and Messalonskee Lake to the east . All lakes are interconnected and drained by the Kennebec River . The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is Howland Hill , located in the north between Great Pond and Ellis Pond , 214 m high .

history
Settlement in Belgrade began in 1774. On February 3, 1796, Belgrade was organized as a town. The name goes back to the Serbian city of Belgrade , which John V. Davis, a resident of the area, visited in 1774. The town of Belgrade previously belonged to the Washington Plantation . Other names were Prescott’s or Snow’s Plantation . One of the early settlers was Peaslee Morrill, father of Anson P. Morrill and Lot M. Morrill , both politicians in various offices and governors of Maine. Early business centers were the settlements of Belgrade and North Belgrade in the east of the town with a Maine Central Railroad station , the post office and Belgrade Mills in the northwest.
In 1798, Belgrade received areas of Sidney and in 1834 and 1839 areas of the former Dearborn town. Land was given to Mount Vernon in 1846 and parts of Rome were added in 1845 and 1897.

traffic
The Maine State Route 27 runs from northwest to southeast through Belgrade and connects Belgrade to the south of Augusta. The Maine State Route 135 branches off to the southwest, and the Maine State Route 8 in the northeast. From here the Maine State Route 11 branches off in an easterly direction.

There are no medical institutions or hospitals in Belgrade. The closest are in Waterville and Augusta.
