Clinton is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 3486 inhabitants in 1412 households on an area of 116.01 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Clinton has a total area of 116.01 km², of which 113.62 km² is land and 2.38 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Clinton is north of Kennebec County, bordering Somerset County to the west and north and Waldo County to the east. To the west the area is bounded by the Kennebec River . In the east of the town, the Sebasticook River flows south and flows into the Kennebec River. The surface is slightly hilly, with no significant elevations.

history
Settlement in Clinton started around 1775 and the area was under the Plymouth Claim, the Kennebec Purchase. Around 1790 the area was organized as the Hancock Plantation.
On August 7, 1848, the area was organized as a town called Maine , previously the area was also called Jarvis Gore. Because the Maine, Maine address had often caused confusion, a year later the name was named in honor of DeWitt Clinton , Mayor of New York City and Governor of New York State.

The Interstate 95 runs centrally in Clinton from north to south and connects the south with Clinton Waterville and Augusta and north to Bangor. The Maine State Route 100 runs in a north-south direction parallel to the Sebasticook River through the east of the town.
