Readfield is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 2598 inhabitants in 998 households on an area of 80.16 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Readfield has a total area of 80.16 km², of which 75.52 km² is land and 4.64 km² is made up of water .
Geographical location
Readfield is west of Kennebec County. Several lakes are located in the area or adjacent to the town: Maranacook Lake to the south, Carlton Pond to the southeast , Lovejoy Pond to the west, Echo Lake to the northwest and Torsey Lake to the north . There are other, smaller lakes. The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 202 m high Monks Hill in the southeast of Readfield.

history
Readfield was originally part of Pondtown , now Winthrop, and was settled from 1764. Pondtown was part of the Kennebec Purchase from Governor Bradford's Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts. On March 11, 1791, it was separated from Winthrop and organized as an independent town. In 1809 a narrow gore called the Thirty-Mile Strip was added, land was given to Winthrop in 1810, and land was added to Wayne in 1821. Parts of Mount Vernon were added in 1825 and 1845, and land was also given to Mount Vernon in 1845. Land was given to Manchester in 1850 and 1852 and land was added to Manchester in 1852 and 1854.
The Kents Hill School , a private school preparing for college, was founded in 1824 as Maine Wesleyan Seminary by Luther Sampson under the auspices of the Methodists in Kents Hill. It is one of the oldest continuously operating co-educational preparatory schools in the United States.

The Maine State Route 41 leads north to south through Readfield. It connects Readfield with Winthrop in the south and Mount Vernon in the north. It is crossed by Maine State Route 17 , which runs west-east from Fayette in the west to Manchester in the east.
