Pittston is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 2666 inhabitants in 1103 households on an area of 86.61 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Pittston has a total area of 86.61 km², which consists of 83.32 km² of land and 3.29 km² of water .
Geographical location
Pittston is located in the southeast of Kennebec County and is bounded on the west by the Kennebec River and on the northwest by the Toguz Stream . To the east and south the area of the town is bordered by Lincoln County and to the southwest by Sagadahoc County . The Eastern River flows southwest through the town. Centrally located is the largest lake, Nehumkeag Pond and in the northeast is Joys Pond . The surface is rather flat, the highest point is the 164 m high Beach Hill .

history
Pittston was settled as early as the 17th century. The first settler to settle in the area was killed by Indians in 1676 and his house was burned down. In 1716, as an agent of the Kennebec owners, Noyes built a fort near Nahumkeag Island, which was also burned down by the Indians. The area was divided up in 1751 by Captain John North and Abram Wyman. On February 4, 1779, the area that previously formed the Gardinerston Plantation was organized as Town Pittston. The town was named after William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham . Until 1804 Gardiner and West Gardiner belonged to the area of the town.

The Maine State Route 27 extends in the north-south direction, parallel to Kennebec River, extends in the easterly direction Maine State Route 126 and in the southeastern direction Maine State Route 194 . They all meet in the main settlement of Pittston in the northwest of the area of the town, at the confluence of the Toguz Stream with the Kennebec River.
