Rüllschau ( Danish : Rylskov ) is a village in Schleswig-Holstein , which today belongs to the municipality of Maasbüll .
location
The rural Flensburg suburb is located east of the Flensburg district of Tarup and can be reached via side streets of Taruper Hauptstraße and Bundesstraße 199 (Nordstraße). South of Rüllschau is the village of Maasbüll, with which it has not yet grown together.
background
In pre-Christian times there is said to have been a place of worship near the street Helledal ("sacred valley"). The village's Michaeliskirche was built at the beginning of the 13th century at the latest. Possibly it was built directly on the already mentioned cult place. The parish of Rüllschau originally belonged to the Husbyharde . Rüllschau remained as one of the smallest, independent communities of fishing into the 21st century .
Rüllschau was mentioned for the first time in 1424 in connection with a trial between King Erich VII and Duke Rothanrup. A second mention, from 1440, under the name "Ruhelschau", comes from the church directory of the Schleswig bishop. Following this spelling, Hans Nicolai Andreas Jensen interpreted the name of the village as "clearing in the holy forest". "Ru" therefore means clearing, just like the name of the Rudekloster, which was not far from the 12th century . The part of the name “-hel-” should mean “holy” (see for example Heliand ). As already mentioned, a pagan cult site is said to have existed in Rüllschau, where the church may have been built. As with many other place names in the area, such as Schausende , Schobüll, the ending "-schau" indicates a forest. Even today the word “skov” has this meaning in Danish. Rüllschau was mentioned again in 1451 as “Rolschouw” in a list of the goods of the St. Jürgen Hospital. “To Rolschouw”, as the property register from 1451 states, the farm with today's address Böver Weg 20 belonged to the hospital, which is the oldest guaranteed farm in the village. A somewhat more recent interpretation, but also from the 19th century, comes from the Danish linguist Johannes Kok. This interpreted the place name as a combination of Sønderjysk "Rylle", which means hornbeam and "-skov" for forest, so according to the Danish spelling "Rylskov".
A little further to the east, the small settlement of Ruhnmark ( Lage ) emerged at some point over time . The said village of Ruhnmark was first mentioned in 1567. The Rosgaard farm north of Rüllschau was also mentioned for the first time in the 16th century .
In 1966, Rüllschau was merged with the Maasbüll municipality. In 1987 the pastorate of the Rüllschau community at Böverweg 29 was demolished. Rüllschau now has its own community kindergarten, which is located in the so-called "New School" (a building from 1950). On January 1, 2007, the parish of Rüllschau, to which Maasbüll already belonged, together with the parish of Hürup formed the new parish of Hürup-Rüllschau with 1,600 parish members.
various
- The so-called "Rüllschauer Graben" forms the border between the Rosgaard area and the Rüllschauer area in the north. The Rüllschauer Graben flows further east where it flows into the "Rosgaarder Bach" which is a tributary to the Munkbrarupau.
- The only cultural monument in the municipality of Maasbüll is the Michaeliskirche (Rüllschau) there ; see. List of cultural monuments in Maasbüll .
- To the west lies the Vogelsang , one of the largest conservation areas in the city of Flensburg . From there you can take the Rüllschauer Weg to Rüllschau.
- The coat of arms of the municipality of Maasbüll , created in 2005, contains the flaming sword of the Archangel Michael and thus refers to the Michaeliskirche in Rüllschau.
