background

Show end at the northern end of the cemetery (Danish: Fredskov )

Schausende was first mentioned in 1668. The place name is derived from Danish. skov for forest and accordingly designates a settlement at the northern end of the cemetery.

At the end of the 19th century, Schausende was still a small town with a brick factory right on the Flensburg Fjord. The brick factory near Schausende was one of a large number of brick factories on the fjord that represented an important branch of industry in the Flensburg area. In 1896, the original Holnis lighthouse was built at Schausende , southwest of the actual Holnis. In the 1960s, the current lighthouse Holnis was built there. In 1893, Schausende was incorporated into Glücksburg .

The original “Schausende” with some still preserved thatched-roof farmhouses and cottages is still in the south of the village on the street of the same name “Schausende”. In more recent times the new development area of Schausende with single-family houses and holiday apartments has been built a little further north by the lighthouse. Two skyscrapers were also built directly on the banks of the fjord. The adjacent modern marina was completed in 1976. The marina with 169 places is operated by Club-Nautic eV.
