West Gardiner is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 3474 inhabitants in 1368 households on an area of ​​70.11 km².

West Gardiner is located in the south of Kennebec County and is bordered to the east by Cobbosseecontee Lake , whose outflow, the Cobbosseecontee Stream , forms the southern border, flows through Pleasant Pond and flows further north into the Kennebec River , where it forms the eastern boundary of the town . history

West Gardiner initially belonged to the town of Pittston, which was organized in 1779 and previously known as Gardinerston Plantation and was settled from 1779. On August 8, 1850 West Gardiner was organized independently as a town after Gardiner, to which West Gardiner belonged, had been organized as a city. However, the western, rural part of the area did not feel part of the city and so the Town West Gardiner was organized separately from the City Gardiner.

Land was given to Farmingdale in 1852 and parts of Farmingdale were added in 1853. In 1856 parts of Litchfield were added.

The Interstate 95 extends in the north-south direction, parallel to the eastern border of the Town. From the southeast, Interstate 295 joins 95. In a west-east direction, Maine State Route 126 runs from Gardiner in the east to Litchfield in the west.

Public facilities

There are no medical facilities or hospitals in West Gardiner. The closest are in Gardiner, Winthrop and Augusta.

The Gardiner Public Library is located in West Gardiner and dates back to 1796. A first building was erected by the Gardiner Library Association in 1881. The current building was built in 1930.

West Gardiner, along with Gardiner, Pittston, and Randolph, is part of the Maine School Administrative District # 11.
