Farmingdale is a town in Kennebec County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 2956 inhabitants in 1259 households on an area of 29.91 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Farmingdale has a total area of 29.91 km², of which 29.11 km² is land and 0.8 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Farmingdale is located on the Kennebec River , in the south of Kennebec County. The Kennebec River forms the eastern boundary of the town. There are no lakes in the Farmingdale area, but Jimmie Pond and Hutchinson Pond are adjacent to the west . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
European immigrants explored the course of the Kennebec River very early on. After the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazanno who explored the mouth of the Kennebec River in May 1524, the French Samuel De Champlain set off upriver in 1604, followed by the Englishman George Weymouth in 1605. The area was part of the charter, the 1620 of Plymouth Company as land-grant by King James I was given. Through the Plymouth Company, William Bradford came to areas along the Kennebec River in 1629, including Farmingdale. Later these areas were divided into individual parcels by a subsequent company. On April 3, 1852, Farmingdale was organized as a town. Farmingdale's first industry was the mining and trading of ice.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Interstate 95 extends centrally in the north-south direction by Farmingdale. It connects Farmingdale with Augusta in the north and Portland in the south. US Highway 201 runs through Farmingdale parallel to the Kennebeck River, also in a north-south direction .
