New Sharon is a town in Franklin County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 1407 people lived there in 585 households on an area of 121.29 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , New Sharon has a total area of 121.29 km², of which 119.63 km² is land and 1.66 km² is made up of water .
Geographical location
New Sharon is in southeast Franklin County. It borders Somerset County to the east and Kennebec County to the south . The Sandy River flows in an easterly direction through the area of the town, it flows into the Kennebec River . There are no larger lakes in the town area. It is bordered by Crowell Pond in the southwest and Kimball Pond in the south . The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 366 m high York Hill in the south of New Sharon.

history
The grant issued by the state of Massachusetts for New Sharon was given to Prince Baker and others in 1791. Settlement began as early as 1782 and as early as 1794 the area, which was initially organized as Unity Plantation , was organized as a town. Baker was one of the first settlers in the area. New Sharon is said to belong to the area granted to Captain William Tyng and his company in recognition of their service during a dangerous snowshoe chase of the Indian enemy in the first winter of the Queen Anne's Wars . This area was first called Tyngstown, later Unity Plantation.

The US Highway 2 runs in a west-east direction through the area of the town. Like Maine State Route 134, it follows the course of the Sandy River. Maine State Route 27 branches off to the south .
Public facilities
There are no medical facilities in New Sharon. The closest are in Farmington and Madison.
New Sharon has her own library. The Jim Ditzler Memorial Library was founded in 1850.
