Geographical location
Carrabassett Valley is centrally located in east Franklin County. The Carrabassett River flows first in an easterly, then in a south direction through the area of the town. The group from the northern hill Bigelow Range coming Huston Brook opens shortly before the settlement Carrabassett Valley in the Carrabassett River . There are few smaller lakes in Carrabassett Valley. The largest is the centrally located Redington Pond . The Bigelow Preserve is adjacent to the north . Carrabassett Valley in the valley of the same name is surrounded and interspersed by large hills and mountains. The highest point is the 1295 m high Sugarloaf Mountain .

history
Originally the area was called Township No. 4, Second Range Bingham's Kennebec Purchase, West of Kennebec River (T4 R2 BKP WKR). Other names were Jerusalem Township , Sugarloaf Township , Carrabassett Plantation and Crockertown . On October 26, 1971, the area was organized as a town under the name Carrabassett Valley .
The town is characterized by the Sugarloaf ski area on Sugarloaf Mountain. The economic success of the largest ski area in Maine led to a significant increase in the population. The private Carrabassett Valley Academy is a ski and snowboard academy that offers most of the downhill winter mountain sports. The school was founded in 1982.

Culture and sights
Sports
Thanks to the Sugarloaf ski area, Carrabassett Valley is a distinct winter sports resort. In February 1971 the ski area hosted world cup races for men and women, and in 1984 it was the venue for the Alpine Junior World Championship . Numerous Nor Am Cup races took place as well as many American championships.
Economy and Infrastructure

The Maine State Route 27 connects Carrabassett Valley with Augusta in the south and the Canadian border in the north. It follows the course of the Carrabassett River .
The Sugarloaf Regional Airport is located near Villages Carrabassett, east of the Carrabassett River .
Public facilities
There are no medical facilities in Carrabassett Valley. The closest are in Kingfield, Bingham and Rangeley.
Carrabassett Valley has its own library, the Carrabassett Valley Public Library .
education
Schooling in Carrabassett Valley is organized by the Carrabassett Valley School Department . There is no elementary or high school in the town, so the Kingfield Elementary School or the Stratton Elementary School are attended by school children. As a high school, the closest is Mt. Abram High School.
The town is home to the private Carrabassett Valley Academy, which offers school grades 7 and 8.
