Temple is a town in Franklin County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 528 people lived there in 226 households on an area of 92.62 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Temple has a total area of 92.62 km², of which 92.02 km² is land and 0.6 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Temple is in the south of Franklin County. The Temple Stream , a tributary of the Sandy River , flows with its branches in a southerly direction through the area of the town. Varnum Pond borders in the south . There are several smaller lakes in the northeast, such as Drury Pond and Staples Pond . The surface of the area is very hilly. The 638 m high Kinneys Head is the highest point in Temple.

history
The area of the later Town Temple was settled from 1796 and was a Quaker community . Joseph Holland and Samuel Briggs were among the first to settle. Originally, the area was Township No. 1 Abbot's Purchase (T1 AP) or Abbotstown . This name goes back to Jacob Abbott, who initially worked as a land agent for the first owner of the area, Benjamin Phillips. Abbott later bought the land in the area himself. The area was organized into town in 1803 and the name changed to Tempel.
