history

The New Vineyard area was purchased by a group of Massachusetts people who also owned Martha's Vineyard Island . The area also bore the name New Vineyard when it came to organizing a plantation. The area was settled from 1791 by Daniel Collins and Abner Norton, who moved there with their families. The town was founded in 1802.
