Daniel Albert Freudweiler (born December 18, 1793 in Felsberg GR ; † April 30, 1827 in Zurich ) was a Swiss portrait painter and lithographer .

biography

Daniel Albert Freudweiler, son of the shoemaker Karl Friedrich Freudweiler, was a student of Johannes Pfenninger (1765–1825) in Zurich. Sickly since his youth, Freudweiler earned his living with watercolors and miniature portraits, he also painted pictures with religious subjects. From 1818 to 1821 he studied at the Roman Accademia di San Luca , then stayed in Rome until 1824, where he maintained contacts with the Nazarenes .

After returning to Zurich, he painted numerous portraits and smaller genre pictures, and also created lithographs. Freudweiler was the teacher of Georg Balder , Carl Arnold Gonzenbach and Hans Conrad Hitz . Freudweiler died at the age of 34. He left behind the Roman portrait book with 25 pencil portraits of his Roman friends and acquaintances as well as the Büchli sketch from the years 1819–1820.
