Carl Arnold Gonzenbach
Carl Arnold Gonzenbach (born July 21, 1806 in St. Gallen ; † June 13, 1885 there ) was a Swiss painter, engraver and draftsman.
Life
Carl Gonzenbach attended Johann Jakob Lips' painting school in Zurich from 1821 to 1825 , then with Otto Felsing and Samuel Amsler in Munich , where he had been enrolled at the art academy from 1826, in 1828 he traveled to Paris, where he worked with François Forster , in 1831 / 32 he went on a trip to Italy. He then returned to St. Gallen, where he worked as a portrait painter and gave drawing lessons. From 1838 to 1878 he lived in Munich, then again in St. Gallen.

In addition to some portraits in oil, he made reproductive cardboard and copper engravings based on images by Wilhelm von Kaulbach, Julius von Schnorr, Bonaventura Genelli and Ludwig Vogel.

- Based on models by Friedrich Pecht and Arthur von Ramberg , he created three steel engravings for the Schiller Gallery , published in 1859 .
- Together with Alexander Rordorf , Gonzenbach created an illustration for Dante's Divina Commedia based on an oil painting by Carl Vogel von Vogelstein , which hangs in the Grand Ducal Palace delle Crociette in Florence .
