Alexander Rordorf
Alexander Rordorf (born April 16, 1820 in Zurich , † November 9, 1909 in Cologne ) was a Swiss painter , copper and steel engraver and teacher of drawing .
Life
Rordorf was the son of a master saddler . In 1832 the “ Zürcherisches Wochen-Blatt ” recorded an “ orphan ” Alexander Rordorf as the winner at the boys' shooting event . Rordorf was initially a student of C. G. Oberkogler . From mid-1838 to the end of 1844, Rordorf studied at the Art Academy in Munich under Professor Samuel Amsler .
In 1848 Rordorf went to Paris and then moved alternately to Zurich, Munich , Düsseldorf and Cologne . In 1866 he took painting lessons from K. Jungmann in order to teach drawing himself from 1870 to 1875 in Würzburg . Finally he moved back to Cologne, where he died in 1909.
Works

- 1846 The Adoration of the Magi according to Ulrich Halbreiter
- In 1848 Rordorf drew a portrait of the Swiss general Guillaume-Henri Dufour in Bern, "after nature" , which he engraved in Munich in January 1848, shortly after Dufour, as a general in the Sonderbund War, had crushed the secession movement of the seven Catholic federal cantons .
- For the Schiller Gallery , which appeared in 1869, Rordorf created various engravings based on drawings by Friedrich Pecht and Arthur von Ramberg (including Bertha von Bruneck ).
- Together with Carl Arnold Gonzenbach , Rordorf created an illustration for Dante's Divina Commedia based on an oil painting by Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein that hangs in the Grand Ducal Palace delle Crociette in Florence .
- In the Manskopf Collection of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main there is a handwritten subtitled bust of a woman from Dessauer von Rordorf based on a model by Wilhelm von Kaulbach with the title Dessauer, Bust, Profile.

- Rordorf provided work on the work Die Geschichte des Deutschen Volkes in fifteen sheets urn : nbn: de: bvb: 12-bsb10047717-2 , published in 1854 .
- The Bildarchiv Foto Marburg attributed to Rordorf a steel engraving published in 1880 based on a template attributed to Johann Jakob Tanner called View of Cologne from Deutz, from the Bayenturm to the cathedral, plus 14 smaller views , which is in the possession of the Cologne City Museum .
