Johann Jakob Tanner

Johann Jakob Tanner (born October 9, 1865 in Wolfhalden , † January 21, 1939 in Herisau ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss lawyer and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Jakob Tanner was a son of Johann Jakob Tanner, miller and baker , and Elise Tobler. In 1892 he married Hermine Niederer, daughter of Johannes Niederer, farmer and councilor in Wald . He entered into a second marriage with Meta Rosalia Sidler, divorced Müller, daughter of Alois Sidler. After his father moved away in 1870, Tanner had to contribute to the family income as a thread operator. From 1880 to 1882 he attended the canton school in Trogen and from 1882 to 1885 the teachers' college in Kreuzlingen . From 1888 to 1892 and in 1903 and 1904 he studied law in Bern and Lausanne . In 1904 he obtained a doctorate in law. Tanner worked as a primary school teacher in Sool from 1885 to 1888 . From 1892 to 1898 he was secretary of the Ausserrhoder Cantonal Chancellery and then opened his own law firm in Herisau. He was on the local council from 1898 to 1903. From 1899 to 1903 and from 1905 to 1921 he served as a cantonal councilor . He sat on the Revision Council from 1906 to 1908. From 1908 to 1919 he held the office of chief judge, from 1910 to 1914 as president. As Ausserrhoder government councilor from 1921 to 1931 he headed the education department. Tanner founded a cantonal Democratic Party in 1906. He was a member of the Concordia Masonic Lodge .
