Anson is a town in Somerset County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 2511 inhabitants in 1300 households on an area of ​​125.07 km².

Geographical location

Anson is located in southwest Somerset County and borders Franklin County . The Kennebec River forms the eastern boundary of the area. In North Ansons the Carrabassett River flows into the Kennebec River. There are only smaller lakes in the area of ​​the town. The surface is slightly hilly, the 393 m high Barton Hill is the highest point.

The area was initially measured as Township No. 1, First Range North of Plymouth Claim, West of Kennebec River (T1 R1 NPC WKR) , other designations were Titcombtown and Brookfield . The Carrabassett River settlements in Anson, New Portland, and Embden were called the Seven Mile Brook Sattlement.

Settlement of the area began in 1772. Ansons was organized as a town on March 1, 1798 and named after George Anson . Two fires in 1863 and 1913 destroyed large parts of North Anson.

Parts of Embden were added in 1828, parts of New Vineyard in 1840. Land was given to Industry in 1823 and New Portland in 1830. In 1845 North Anson was organized as an independent town, but in 1855 it was reintegrated into the Town of Anson.
