The seventh child was born in Moscow in 1784 as the first child. Isaac Temple, who reached the area in 1804, built the first sawmill in Moscow on the Kennebec River . From 1812, the inhabitants tried to organize the area as a town. Initially, the name of the settlement should be Bakerstown, after the now numerous residents in the area named Baker, who had settled from Litchfield, but were not related to the first Baker family. However, this name was already given to today's Town Poland . Since Northfield was also eliminated, the name Moscow was chosen after the Russian capital. The Town Moscow was organized on January 30, 1816.

After the survey, the area was initially designated as Township No. 1, Second Range Bingham's Kennebec Purchase, East of Kennebec River (T1 R2 BKP EKR) . The area was part of the Carratunk Settlement along with Bingham and also belonged in part to Solon.
