Madison is a town in Somerset County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 4855 inhabitants in 2478 households on an area of 141.98 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Madison has a total area of 141.98 km², of which 134.37 km² is land and 7.61 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Madison is in the south of Somerset County. The Kennebec River , flowing in a southerly direction, forms the western border of the area. The largest lake in the area is centrally located Wesserunsett Lake . The surface is slightly hilly, the 206 m high Ward Hill is the highest point in the town.

history
The first settlers settled in the area from 1775. Town Madison was organized on March 7, 1804. After the survey in 1791, the area was named Township No. 1, First Range North of Plymouth Claim, East of Kennebec River (T1 R1 NPC EKR) . In 1846 land was given to Norridgewock. The town was named after President James Madison .
The priest Sebastian Rasles was the first European to reach the area in 1695. He lived and worked as a pastor with the Indians until 1724 when he was killed by the British. He also built the first church in the area.
