Shawmut (Maine)

Shawmut is a village within the area of ​​the town of Fairfield in Somerset County in the state of Maine in the United States .

Shawmut is on the west bank of the Kennebec River . The US Highway 201 runs north to south through the Village. Shwamut has its own post office and a campus of the Kennebec Valley Community College is in Shwamut.

In 1904 the Shawmut Manufacturing Company was founded in Shawmut . She owned mill buildings and water rights, and made cut lumber, but specialized in items like pine shingles. After her, the village was renamed Shawmut.
