Hermogenes (Bible)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermogenes ( ancient Greek Ἑρμογένης Hermogénēs ) is a person mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible . In 2 Timothy Paul writes that all of his collaborators in the province of Asia have turned away from him. In this context, apart from a Phygelus, Hermogenes ( 2 Tim 1,15  EU ) is also explicitly mentioned by name . The behavior of Hermogenes and Phygelus is contrasted with the behavior of Onesiphorus as a positive counter-example. On the basis of these different behaviors towards Paul during his imprisonment in Rome, the possible behavior towards persecuted followers of Christ are exemplified and the fidelity to the Gospel also emphasized in suffering.
