Embden is a town in Somerset County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 939 people lived there in 950 households (in the United States vacation rentals are also counted as households) on an area of 112.64 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Embden has a total area of 112.64 km², of which 102.51 km² is land and 10.13 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Embden is in the south of Somerset County. The Kennebec River , which flows in a southerly direction, forms the eastern border of the area. The Carrabassett River flows through the southwest . There are several lakes in the area of the town. The largest is the centrally located Embden Pond . To the northwest of this is the Hancock Pond and southeast of the Embden Pond the lakes Sandy Pond and Fahl Pond . The surface is slightly hilly, the 405 m high Black Hill is the highest point in the town.

history
Embden was organized as a town on June 22, 1804. The area was previously known as Township No. 1, Second Range North of Plymouth Claim, West of Kennebec River (T1 R2 NPC WKR) . Later names of the settlements were Queenstown, Greenstown, Greenfield and Titcombtown .
The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1770s. They settled on the Kennebec River and Embden Pond. The outflow from the lake was used to operate sawmills and a grist mill. Today there is a fish farm at the lake, and the lake is mainly used for leisure activities.
