Industry is a town in Franklin County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 929 people lived there in 625 households on an area of ​​80.24 km².

Geographical location

Industry is located in southeast Franklin County on the Somerset County border . The Lemmon Stream , a tributary of the Sandy River , flows with several arms in a southerly direction through the area of ​​the town. The area's largest lake, Clearwater Pond , is to the west of Industry. To the north of this is the Mosher Pond . The surface of the area is hilly, the highest point is the 558 m high Norton Mountain .

history

Industry was formed from the northwestern part of the Plymouth patent, also known as Kennebec Purchases. The first settlements were founded by James and John Thompson, Zoe Withe, Thomas Johnson, and William Allen around 1793 or the following year. The lands were first taken possession of where each individual settled. Other settlers later acquired property rights from the original grant . The Town Industry was founded on June 20, 1803 from the previous Industry Plantation founded in 1799.

In the years from 1813 to 1844, the town was assigned lands in the neighboring towns of New Sharon, New Vineyard, Starks and Anson. It gave land to Farmington and New Sharon in 1850 and 1852.

The Thompson's Bridge in the Village Allen's Mills was placed 1991 under monument protection and under registration no. 91000321 inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
