Nikolai Pavlovich Lawjorow ( Russian: Николай Павлович Лавёров ; born January 12, 1930 in Poscharishche, Konoschsky rajon ; † November 27, 2016 in Moscow ) was a Russian geologist , geochemist , university professor and politician .

Life

Lawjorow came from a farming family. He graduated from the mining chemical -Technikum in Kirovsk with distinction and then studied at the Moscow State Kalinin -Institute for non-ferrous metals and gold with completion in 1954. This was followed by three years of postgraduate study . He received his doctorate in geological-mineralogical sciences . In 1959 he became a member of the CPSU .

1968–1972, Lavjorov headed the All-Russian Geological Fund, in which he introduced a new, improved system of state accounting for mineral resources . In 1971 he was awarded the Soviet Union Medal of Honor for his successful work . He visited all uranium - deposits in the country and most abroad.

Lavjorow headed the Moscow Institute for Geology of Ore Deposits , Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry (IGEM) and taught there as a professor.

1979 Lawjorow became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) in the department of geology , geophysics and geochemistry . In 1987 he became a full member of the AN-SSSR. In the same year he became president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR as successor to Mursabek Imanaliyevich Imanaliev (until 1989, he was followed by Askar Akayev ). He was Vice President of the AN-SSSR from 1988 and remained so until 2013 , when the AN-SSSR became the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN).

In 1989, Lawyorov became vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for Science and Technology, succeeding Boris Leontjewitsch Tolstych . From 1990 to 1991 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. From January 15 to August 28, 1991 he was Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR . When the end of the Soviet Union was looming and the Cabinet of Ministers resigned in August 1991, he continued his official duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for Science and Technology until he was released from his duties on November 26, 1991 has been. His successor was Boris Georgievich Saltykov .

From 2000, Lawjorov headed the Chair of International Problems in Energy Economics at the International Institute for Energy Policy and Diplomacy of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations . He was chairman of the International Commission for the Study of the Arctic , chairman of the National Committee for Geology of the Russian Federation and a member of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe . He was a member of the board of trustees of the Volnoye delo Oleg Vladimirovich Deripaskas charity and an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences .

Lavjorov died after a serious illness and was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery.
