The Norwegian Gem is a Panamax- sized cruise ship that was completed in autumn 2007 .
history
The ship was ordered from Meyer Werft on May 3, 2005 by Norwegian Cruise Line . On June 17, 2006, the first of the 67 blocks was lifted into the shipyard hall in the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . On August 12, 2007 the ship was undocked. On September 15 and 16, 2007, the Norwegian Gem was transferred to Emden . The Norwegian Gem was delivered to the shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line on October 1, 2007 in Eemshaven, the Netherlands.
Data
Five MAN diesel engines, which are directly coupled to power generators, provide propulsion and electricity. These in turn supply the on-board network and the two electric Azipod drive pods. In combination with three bow thrusters, this makes the ship extremely manoeuvrable for its size.
The ship is measured at around 93,500 GT. It reaches a speed of 25 knots and is one of the largest and fastest Panamax-class cruise ships in the world.
commitment
The Norwegian Gem leaves in winter from New York to the Caribbean, in summer from Boston to Bermuda and New England.
