Third Eye Blind is an American alternative rock - band from San Francisco , California , the sentimental ballads combined with powerful rock songs and most likely with groups such as the Goo Goo Dolls , Matchbox Twenty , or Our Lady Peace is comparable.
Band history
The band was founded in 1993 by Stephan Jenkins ( vocals , songwriting , guitar ), George Earth (guitar), Adrian Burley ( drums ) and Jason Slater ( bass ). Until the release of the debut album in 1997 and thereafter, the line-up changed several times; only Jenkins and Brad Hargreaves (drums) have been continuous members since 1997. For a short time the smash mouth drummer Michael Urbano and the former Primus drummer Tim Wright played in the band.
As the opening act for the British group Oasis , the group made big record labels attention in 1996, including Elektra Records , which the band signed. In 1997 the self-titled debut album was released, of which over six million copies were sold. The single Semi-Charmed Life was sold over a million times and made it known in Europe, like How's It Going to Be, also from the album, stayed in the US charts for up to a year.
After several sold-out tours, the follow-up album Blue was released in 1999 , which reached platinum status in 2000 . In the summer of 2000 guitarist Cadogan was fired after a business dispute with Jenkins and replaced by Tony Fredianelli. In 2003 the band released their third album, Out of the Vein . After his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer , front man Stephan Jenkins organized the “Breathe Benefit Concert” in Los Angeles , at which numerous artists campaigned for the research and treatment of breast cancer.
