Smash Mouth is an American alternative rock band.

Band history

The band was founded in 1994 by Steve Harwell, Greg Camp, Kevin Coleman and Paul de Lisle in San José ( California )

Smash Mouth had their first hit, and thus their breakthrough in the music industry, with the song Walkin 'on the Sun in 1997 . The following singles could not build on this success and so Smash Mouth was referred to as another " one-hit wonder " band.

That changed in the summer of 1999 with the single All Star . It was also for the films Shrek from DreamWorks , Rat Race of Universal Studios , Digimon Adventure and Inspector Gadget used 1999th In the same year, Kevin Coleman was also replaced by Mitch Marine. This then also later by Jason Sutter and subsequently by Mike Urbano. They also covered I'm A Believer by The Monkees for Shrek .

In 2000, Smash Mouth was awarded triple platinum for the album Astro Lounge .

Smash Mouth has a large fan base in the USA, but the group is rather unknown in Europe. Smash Mouth mainly plays trendy ska-punk . The lyrics are not politically influenced, but very optimistic.
