Paul Hennige

Moritz Paul Hennige (born June 15, 1839 in Magdeburg , † July 22, 1903 in Randau ) was a German entrepreneur and patron .

Life

Hennige was born the son of the Neustädter sugar manufacturer Carl Joachim Jacob Hennige . From 1858 he and his brother-in-law Ernst Carl Bernhard Freise managed the company founded by his father in 1838, the sugar factory Jacob Hennige & Comp. , which became of supraregional importance and stretched on both sides of Neustädter Mittagstrasse . In 1863 Hennige also took over the Randau manor .

In 1889 the Baumann & Maquet sugar refinery in Buckau was taken over.

Hennige was a member of the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors of the Association of German Sugar Refineries as well as a member of the supervisory board of various Magdeburg companies.

Patronage

Hennige also excelled as a patron, so in 1898 he gave his hometown Magdeburg three volumes with original manuscripts by Martin Luther from 1528 and 1541. He also donated three pictures to the city for their municipal collection of paintings: Adam and Eve by Lucas Cranach as well as Saint Sebastian and Saint Paul from the Cranach School. Luther's manuscripts and the three pictures are still in the holdings of the Magdeburg Cultural History Museum .

Paul Hennige received the Prussian Order of the Crown, 4th Class , in 1871 with the red cross on a white field on the commemorative ribbon and on January 18, 1901, the Prussian Order of the Crown, 3rd Class. From 1893 he was dike captain of the Elbenau dike association. In 1896 he was awarded the honorary title of Kommerzienrat . The city of Magdeburg temporarily named a street in his honor as Hennigestraße .

family

Hennige was married twice. On September 17, 1863, he married Marie Helene Bonte in Magdeburg (born June 13, 1843 in Magdeburg; † August 11, 1876 in Magdeburg-Neustadt), the daughter of the Magdeburg brewery owner Johann Friedrich Bonte and his wife Marie Hermine Ernestine Bonte, née. Becker . After the death of his first wife, Paul Hennige married her sister Marie Katharine Bonte on October 9, 1877 in Magdeburg (* September 7, 1852 in Magdeburg; † June 7, 1941 in Magdeburg-Neustadt)
