Victor Vincent Fuentes , known as Vic Fuentes (born February 10, 1983 in San Diego , California ) is an American rock musician. He is the guitarist and singer of the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil and was a member of the short-lived supergroup Isles & Glaciers alongside his younger brother Mike . He and his brother have Mexican and Irish ancestry. In his private life he is friends with the musicians from Sleeping with Sirens .

Private

Vic Fuentes was born on February 10, 1983 in San Diego , California . His parents are Victor Gamboa Fuentes and Vivian K. Fuentes. His father was a Mexican jazz musician who now works as a house painter . Through him he learned to play the guitar at the age of seven . His mother Vivian worked as a food inspector but had to quit her job due to carpal tunnel syndrome .

He studied graphic design at San Diego State University . However, he broke off this study after his band was signed by Equal Vision Records . Like his brother Mike , he graduated from Mission Bay High School .

Fuentes ex-girlfriend suffered from breast cancer . He dedicated the song A Match Into Water to her on the album Collide with the Sky . He also admitted to having had problems with self-harm before. In an article in FUZE Magazine , he revealed that he had even had his own experience with depression and thoughts of suicide . He is now in a relationship with Danielle Perry, who can be seen on the cover of Rise Against's 2014 album The Black Market .

Vic Fuentes can be heard as a guest musician in the piece Starving for Friends by Slaves , which can be found on their debut album Through Art We Are All Equals . According to Jonny Craig , this collaboration is meant to be an apology to him and the rest of Pierce the Veil because Craig took advantage of their previous friendship. In an interview with Alternative Press on July 3, 2014, Craig did not elaborate on this incident.

The Fuentes brothers are related to the musician Nick Martin , who is or was active in Underminded , Cinematic Sunrise , DRUGS , among others . In addition, Victor Fuentes has two half-brothers and a half-sister who result from his mother's first marriage.

He has been friends with Curtis Peoples, who co-wrote the song King for a Day , since childhood. In high school they played together in a punk band called 3 Simple Words . His nephew Kyle Allen formed the band Keyes , who signed a record deal with Tragic Hero Records .

On August 6, 2019, Fuentes announced that it had become co-chair of the Living the Dream Foundation , a non-profit organization that grants a wish to seriously ill children and adolescents. Fuentes has been the organization's ambassador since 2016.

Career

In 1998 Fuentes founded the group Before Today with his brother Mike under the name Early Times . The only known release came in the form of an album through Equal Vision Records in 2004 . In 2006 the group split up, whereupon the brothers formed the band Pierce the Veil in 2007 . With this he has released four studio albums to date with A Flair for the Dramatic , Selfish Machines , Collide with the Sky and Misadventures . Fuentes toured worldwide with Pierce the Veil and performed at several well-known music festivals as well as festival tours such as Rock am Ring , Rock im Park , the Soundwave Festival , Slam Dunk Festival and the Warped Tour . The band was accompanied by groups such as Sleeping with Sirens , Tonight Alive , A Day to Remember , All Time Low and many more. The most successful studio album to date was released by Fuentes with his band in 2012. Collide with the Sky sold nearly 250,000 copies in the United States alone by August 2014. There the album entered the national album charts at number 12 . The bonus DVD This Is a Wasteland , which comes with the reprint of the album, received an award for Best DVD at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards .

In addition, Vic Fuentes was one of three singers in the short-lived supergroup Isles & Glaciers , which only released one EP and only played a single show. Fuentes was also a session musician with Cinematic Sunrise in May 2008 .

2014 he was at the Alternative Press Music Awards in the category Best Vocalist nomination, which, however, at Brendon Urie of Panic! went to the disco .

Fuentes has already appeared as a guest musician with Chiodos , Mayday Parade , Slaves and All Time Low . He can also be seen in the music video for the song All I Want by A Day to Remember from the album Common Courtesy . Fuentes also made a cameo in the music videos Boom by Simple Plan and Blind by Third Eye Blind , the latter being a cover version of Beyoncé 's song of the same name.

Lyrics

Fuentes is rarely supported in writing the lyrics by friends like Tom Denney (former guitarist with A Day to Remember , now a music producer ), Curtis Peoples or Dave Yaden. Many of his texts are based on personal experience. When composing the lyrics, Fuentes does not follow any concepts, but takes inspiration from current or family events, personal experiences in relationships, on tour and from friends.

"I try not to really go with any sort of concept or anything like that. Some bands are very political; some bands only write about love. Our band is always about what has recently happened, whatever is happening in our families, in our lives, our relationships, our tours and our friends. Whatever is weighing heavy in our minds is going to come out. "

- Vic Fuentes to the Alternative Press

However, Vic Fuentes has also written several pieces where he was inspired by fans of the group. He wrote the songs Bulls in the Bronx and Hold On Till May for Olivia Penpraze, who hanged herself on April 3, 2012 . Friends of Penpraze wrote a letter to the musicians because she was a fan of the band.

"Bulls in the Bronx" has a crazy story to it. It's a sad story, but it inspired the song. It's about this girl who is 16, and her friends wrote to me and said she recently committed suicide, along with a link to her Tumblr page. It was one of the most haunting things I've ever seen. It's so sad because she was such a sweet-looking girl too. There were things on there where she would say how she thought she was worthless, ugly, and all this crazy stuff. That whole thing really stuck with me for a while, and I wrote this song about her. "

- Vic Fuentes opposite mindequalsblown.net about the single Bulls in the Bronx

The song I Don't Care If You're Contagious was also dedicated to a fan of the band. The musicians said in an article with Alternative Press magazine that a female fan had made contact with the musicians and reported that their former boyfriend was killed in a car accident. Both had met at a group concert. Fuentes wrote this song as a gift for her. The song Million Dollar Houses (The Painter) is addressed to Fuentes' parents, whereby his father was specifically addressed. The play is about the fact that the subject of money did not separate his parents, no matter how badly they were.

Many fans of the group have already thanked the band and attribute a "healing" effect to the lyrics. There were listeners who, through the lyrics, kept themselves from harming themselves.

singing

Vic Fuentes is known for his fairly high-pitched singing voice. In the Metal Hammer his voice has already been compared to Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria . In the studio, Fuentes plays both the clean and the screamed vocal parts, while bassist Jaime Preciado slips into the role of the screamer at live concerts .
