A Flair for the Dramatic is the debut album by US post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil . It was released on June 26, 2007 after the first band of the two musicians Vic and Mike Fuentes , Before Today , split up in the fall of the previous year.

The album consists of eleven tracks and a bonus song on the download version of the album on iTunes . It is the first album that the musicians released through Equal Vision Records . It is also the only album that Pierce the Veil recorded without the later musicians Jaime Preciado ( electric bass ) and Tony Perry ( electric guitar ).

Production and publication

After Before Today broke up in the fall of 2006, singer Vic and his younger brother Mike Fuentes formed the band Pierce the Veil. However, since they could not find any new musicians, they began to write material for the debut album on their own. The two received support from Dave Yaden and Curtis Peoples, who are friends with the two musicians.

The duo entered the studio with producer Casey Bates in early 2007 and recorded the album within a few weeks. The recordings took place at Johnny Cab Studios and The Tank Studio , both located in Seattle , Washington . The album was released worldwide on June 26, 2007 via Equal Vision Records, which the group signed in May 2007.

The band released two singles for the album. Yeah Boy and Doll Face was released in 2008, Chemical Kids and Mechanical Brides followed a year later. A music video was shot for the latter, which was produced by Nate Weaver. The band's first music video was created for the song Currents Convulsive and was directed by Jeremy E. Jackson.

Shortly before the album was produced, Jaime Preciado (electric bass) and Tony Perry (electric guitar) joined the duo. Both previously played in the local metalcore band Trigger My Nightmare . On May 24, 2013, A Flair for the Dramatic was released on record together with Selfish Machines .

reception

Torben from Allschools Network attributes the group to music on a “high technical level”, which shows tendencies between emo , screamo and progressive rock . Sebastian Wable from Ox-Fanzine thinks Pierce the Veil did a really good job with A Flair for the Dramatic . He says that the group "pushes millions of uninspired-sounding emo bands out of the way" and that the album is definitely an insider tip of the month, if not the entire summer. Oliver Schneider from Powermetal.de , however, is less enthusiastic about the album. He writes that albums like A Flair for the Dramatic are the reason no other band wants to be associated with emo. Stephanie Bürgler from SLAM didn't think much of the album either. She described the group as “an unfortunate copy of Panic! at the Disco ". She also described the voice, the song melodies and the rhythm changes as "annoying". In the Metal Hammer the album received 5 out of 7 points.
