The Faule Luch is a body of water in the municipality of Am Mellensee in the Brandenburg district of Teltow-Fläming . The inflow and outflow-free lake is located east of the Sperenberg district and south of the Klausdorf district . It is located in the extensive landscape protection area Baruther Urstromtal and Luckenwalder Heide and is part of the 66 Lakes Regional Park Route and can be reached via the Boden Geo-Path .

Towards the end of the last ice age around 10,000 years ago, a strong ice sheet initially covered the area around Sperenberg and prevented the further uplift of the salt dome below . When it melted and the ground thawed, groundwater flowing in dissolved the pressing salt and carried it away across the glacial valleys . This solution created several cavities in the region, in which, among other things, the Faule Luch and the Krumme See formed. Among other things, reeds , sedges and bulrushes grew on its banks , the dead plant matter of which accumulated under water and deepened . Over the centuries, a formed as the two lakes fen out. Due to the nearby gypsum quarrying , the water table sank and a promontory rose out that can still be seen today. After the end of the mining, the water level rose again, but the Faule Luch is now in danger of silting up because pines , birches and alders have settled around the lake , which draw a comparatively large amount of water from the lake.
