King for a Day is a song by the US post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil from San Diego . It is the first official single for the album Collide with the Sky and was first released on June 5, 2012.

The group Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens , who is privately friends with the musicians, was able to win as a guest singer . A music video for the piece appeared on YouTube on August 6, 2012 .

Although it did not reach a chart position in the official single charts , King for a Day was able to position itself in the Hot Rock Songs charts and in the Digital Rock Songs charts. The group also became a member of the Kerrang! Awards nominated. King for a Day was also well received at the Alternative Press reader voting in 2012 .

Emergence

The name of the piece comes from Mike Fuentes , the group's drummer and brother of singer Vic Fuentes . Vic Fuentes said in an interview with The Revolver that he was impressed with the name of the song. Together with Curtis Peoples and Steve Miller, he wrote the lyrics in a booth in Big Bear Lake , California - which was later temporarily converted into a recording studio. The collaboration with Kellin Quinn ( Sleeping with Sirens ) came about thanks to the fans. They asked the band to record a song with Quinn via Twitter for months . Fuentes and Quinn had never met before, but Fuentes asked Quinn on Twitter if he would be interested in working together. Quinn's vocal part was recorded in a separate studio. The band and Quinn kept in close contact via email during the production of the piece.

In another interview with the Revolver, Quinn presented the circumstances for the collaboration with Pierce the Veil somewhat differently. As a result, Quinn's bandmate, bassist Justin Hills, was the starting point for the collaboration. On the band's Facebook presence, he asked the fans with whom the group would like to work in the future. According to Quinn, the response was so great that Fuentes became aware of the group on Twitter and asked Quinn to work with him.

content

The song is about exceeding critical points. Fuentes sometimes has the feeling, as he reported in an interview with the Revolver , that there are too many things around him in his mind and he is no longer able to control what he feels or control his body.

Music video

The music video for King for a Day was produced by Drew Russ, who would later also be involved in the music video for Bulls in the Bronx . The American music magazine Alternative Press announced on June 25, 2012 that a music video had been shot . On August 2, 2012, a preview for the music video was released. Four days later the video officially premiered on Vevo .

The music video shows Vic and Kellin as supposed employees of a large bank. The manager, Mr. Smalls, asks both of them to stay at the bank overnight to improve the sales figures. They discover that Smalls has transferred several million dollars to a private bank account in Switzerland .

At the beginning of the second verse you can see the two of them with the other musicians in the band. The scene shows that they have been devising a plan to rob the bank for a long time. In the chorus you see Quinn and Fuentes entering the bench in a black suit and briefcase. A little later (in the bridge) the bank robbers (played by Jaime Preciado , Mike Fuentes and Tony Perry ) arrive and storm the building. While the other employees can hide, Mr. Smalls is tied to his chair and has to watch as Kellin is supposedly knocked down. The robbers get into the vault and rob the bank. Shortly before the escape, the handcuffed Smalls is shot at with a water pistol and he realizes that he has been betrayed. At the end you see the perpetrators celebrating and Smalls is arrested for tax evasion.

One of the scenes behind- -Video ( Engl. : "Behind the scenes" ) was on October 3, 2012, YouTube released.
